Validity Sensors Inc. Announces Breakthrough Fingerprint Sensing Patent

Company Leaps Ahead of the Pack with the Next Generation of RF Fingerprint Sensing

PHOENIX-May 31, 2005-Validity Sensors Inc., a recognized innovator of next generation fingerprint sensing technology, has formally been notified by the European Patent Office of its intention to grant all 55 claims for the core technology behind its fingerprint solutions.

Validity's fingerprint sensing technology uses standard Chip-on-Flex packaging and is based on decoupling the sensing elements from the fragile silicon die. Separating the sensing from the silicon allows Validity to solve the industry reliability problems associated with direct human contact to silicon. The technology is the world's only fingerprint acquisition technology that utilizes RF sensing technology to penetrate deep into the living tissue of a finger through a robust flexible plastic film.

Fred Benkley, Founder and CTO of Validity, had this to say, "I am excited, the granting of these claims validates the uniqueness of Validity's technology. It is widely recognized that RF fingerprint sensing allows for a wider population to be imaged, and with this technology, we have raised the bar even higher in terms of performance and reliability."

Brett Minifie, VP of Marketing, went on to say, "Validity has managed to achieve what the rest of the industry has been struggling with for over 7 years. We have separated the fragile active silicon from the sensing elements. This has tremendous benefits for our customers, as we have just solved their reliability and performance issues in one swoop, all using standard, proven, Chip-on-Flex Packaging."
