Validity and Synaptics Integrate the new VFS201 Fingerprint sensor with TouchPad

San Jose, California, June 4, 2007 – Validity Sensors, Inc., a privately held biometric company specializing in high quality durable fingerprint sensors, today announced the second generation of Synaptics' SecurePadTM, a biometric TouchPad created for notebooks.

Validity's exclusive partnership with Synaptics allows Synaptics to exclusively offer TouchPad interface solutions that incorporate Validity's next generation LiveFlexTM fingerprint sensing technology. The second generation SecurePad delivers LiveFlex durability in a smaller exposed swipe area. The smaller sensor area provides further assimilation with the touchpad and allows a more traditional swipe sensor look and feel, being a more durable solution to the traditional silicon sensors. Compatible with the industry's most recognized software solutions, SecurePad offers OEMs complete design flexibility to customize solutions to meet specific requirements.

Synaptics incorporates the Validity VFS201 sensor into the touchpad design for a total integrated solution. This completely flexible solution offers built-to-order (BTO) or configure-to-order (CTO) options--a one stop shop for a total solution. With the LiveFlex sensor, users simply swipe their finger over a durable plastic surface to enter login information, provide indemnification, and view secure data, eliminating the need to remember multiple usernames and passwords. The LiveFlex sensor solves drawbacks of existing silicon fingerprint sensors by separating the interface from the silicon, dramatically increasing sensor resistance to electrostatic discharge (ESD).

"Today's announcement enhances Synaptics' leadership position in the notebook market by offering corporate customers and consumers reliable, easy-to-integrate security solutions like SecurePad," explained Mark Vena, Vice President of the PC Business Unit of Synaptics. "Our exclusive partnership with Validity allows us to offer best in class security solutions that meet the expanding needs of notebook OEMs and addresses the growing importance of protecting and securing data in the PC market."

"The Synaptics' and Validity partnership helps offer our customers a flexible and integrated solution of the TouchPad with the Validity Fingerprint sensor," said Mariel van Tatenhove, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Validity. " The latest generation SecurePad with the smaller VFS201 sensor creates an even more flexible solution, offering our customers an easy built-to-order or configure-to-order options solution."
