San Jose, California, April 15, 2008 - Validity Sensors, Inc., a privately-held biometric sensor company specializing in convenient, secure and reliable fingerprint authentication solutions for information, communication and entertainment devices, announced today that it has received the Frost & Sullivan 2008 Global Non-AFIS Fingerprint Silicon Sensors Product Differentiation Innovation of the Year Award.
Validity has earned this Award for its high-quality performance in the world non-automated fingerprint identification system (non–AFIS) fingerprint silicon sensors market. The Award acknowledges the technical consistency of the VFS201 fingerprint sensor product that has helped the company gain market traction, particularly in the notebook PC space.
Validity is able to solve several foreseen challenges in the market such as achieving long term durability, reducing size, and lowering cost - all while maintaining excellent imaging performance.
Validity's products have a core architectural difference from other silicon based fingerprint sensors on the market today. The silicon chip is separated from the fingerprint imager, where the actual fingerprint sensing area is made of robust Kapton® plastic film. This separation allows the sensor to maintain a fingerprint capture area that is in line with the sizes of human fingers, while the silicon size can stay small and have no direct effect on imaging area.
Users swipe their finger over this durable plastic surface rather than a silicon surface. High frequency RF sensing penetrates deep into living tissue of a finger through the robust plastic film. Validity’s products have a fingerprint capture size that is in line with the width and overall size of real-life fingers
"As the notebook and mobile phone market is expected to grow significantly, Validity’s high-performance, reliable, and durable solution is expected to have immense market potential, said, Neelima Sagar, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Validity’s intrinsic architectural differences combined with market needs makes Validity the worthy recipient of the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Differentiation Innovation of the Year in the world non–AFIS Fingerprint Silicon Sensors Market."
"We are honored that Frost & Sullivan chose us for this specific Award, especially since it calls out our core differentiation advantages compared with the other fingerprint sensors out there," said Jalil Shaikh, CEO at Validity. "Our products have made major traction in the notebook PC market, and we expect them to do well in other markets too."
